Juvenile Justice in Kosovo
In 2007, the Research Team, together with the International Programmes Team commenced a research project examining juvenile crime and the juvenile justice system in Kosovo, as consultants to UNICEF.The research formed part of a project funded by the European Agency for Reconstruction aimed at establishing a juvenile justice system in Kosovo based on children’s rights and evidence-based research.
The aims of the study were to: (a) collect baseline data in order to analyse the rate and nature of youth offending in Kosovo; and (b) undertake a thorough analysis of the implementation of the juvenile justice system in Kosovo. The final report provides recommendations on how the juvenile justice system can be strengthened.

Evaluation of Juvenile Justice Alternative Projects in Tajikistan
The Research Team has been involved in carrying out an evaluation of four Juvenile Justice Alternative Projects (JJAPs) operating in various locations across Tajikistan. The JJAPs were established following a comprehensive analysis of the juvenile justice system which highlighted the over-use of detention of young offenders for minor, non-violent offences.
The aim of the evaluation was to critically assess the operation of the JJAPs and make recommendations to enhance and develop and JJAP model to provide a more effective service to children and young people in conflict with the law in Tajikistan.
