Kate Harvey joined Coram Children's Legal Centre in March 2010 as a paralegal in the education department, then moved on to complete her training contract, and qualified in July 2013. Kate is the supervisor and head of department for the education law team.
Kate completed her LLB (Exempting) Degree at Northumbria University in 2008 and has an LLM in Child Law. Before joining CCLC she worked at Cheshire West and Chester CAB and as a child compliance officer at a national education recruitment company.
Kate undertakes work primarily in education law but also practices in community care, child and family law. She has a special interest in special educational needs, disability discrimination, judicial review and local authority duties towards children, particularly looked after children. She has advocated for clients before the First-Tier Tribunal and Family Court.
Kate takes an active role in CCLC’s policy work and has written responses to government consultations on the SEN Green Paper, Admissions Codes and Exclusion Guidance. She has also assisted the Department for Education in their review of school complaints. She has contributed articles for Children and Young People Now.
Kate is the SQM Quality Representative for CCLC. She was successful in ensuring CCLC secured ongoing accreditation in its last SQM audit.
Kate is based in our Colchester office.
