CCLC is recruiting a Head of Education Law

CCLC is recruiting

8 December 2016

Coram Children's Legal Centre (CCLC) is looking for a suitably skilled and experienced person to take on the role of 'Head of Education Law' in its Legal Practice Unit.

The Legal Practice Unit (within CCLC) is a strong department of 15 lawyers who provide legal casework services to members of the public. It works across the following areas of law: Community care; Immigration and asylum; Family law; and Education law. It holds relevant legal aid contracts for each of those areas of law.

The Education law team and the Head of Department role are based at CCLC's Colchester offices (post code: CO1 1RE). The team currently comprises 5 caseworkers. Another solicitor with supervisory responsibilities is based in CCLC's London office. Currently, the work of the team is exclusively focused on legal aid funded special educational needs law and associated discrimination law matters. This work is referred to CCLC by Civil Legal Advice (CLA) (otherwise known as 'the telephone gateway') which is a part of the Legal Aid Agency. CCLC is a Specialist Help provider for CLA and holds the 2013 CLA Contract in the category of education law. There are only two Specialist Help providers in this category of law across England and Wales, of which CCLC is one. Casework is conducted primarily through 'remote advice' methods (phone, email etc).

We invite interest from lawyers who can demonstrate that they meet the legal aid education law supervisor standard, have operational management experience and can motivate, support and supervise a team of less experienced caseworkers. The role is a busy and stimulating one: balancing and catering to competing demands and priorities is essential.

If you are potentially interested in this role, we invite you to contact CCLC's Director of Legal Practice, Noel Arnold (E: noel.arnold@coramclc.org.uk | T: 020 7713 2018) for an informal discussion or to request an application form which will be emailed with the role description and person specification.

Closing date for applications to be received: 7pm on 9.1.17.
Proposed salary range: £31,000 - £37,500 pa (starting salary dependent on experience and qualifications)

We confirm that CCLC does not wish to be contacted by recruitment agencies.
