The Children’s Legal Centre provides training to for professionals in the field of child law, such as social services departments, teachers, youth workers, foster carers and health professionals, as well as international organisations.
Training for staff working with refugee and asylum seeking children
The Refugee and Asylum Seeking Children’s Project at the Children’s Legal Centre aims to help non-immigration specialist professionals understand the rights and entitlements of this group of children.
Training covers the rights, laws and benefits that affect refugee and asylum seeking children, and how their needs best can be addressed.
Topics include:
- Immigration law and child law in the UK
- Human rights of refugee and asylum seeking children
- Benefits and support available to refugees or asylum seeking young people living, studying and/or working in the UK
- The impact of the asylum process on care planning
- Recent developments in legislation and policy
- Common issues faced by unaccompanied children and those working with them
- Guidance on further support from local and national referral agencies for refugee and asylum seeking children
Training can be tailored to the specific needs of the client and is offered on site or at the Colchester office of the Children’s Legal Centre.
A maximum of 20 staff can participate in single training session.
