The Children's Legal Centre has produced its 6th edition of Working with Young People: Legal responsibility and liability. The book contains essential guidance for all professional and practitioners who work with children and young people. It has been updated to take into account changes in the law relating to children as a result of the Adoption and Children Act 2002, the Children Act 2004 and new government guidance and circulars.
Those who wo
rk directly with young people, whether in youth work, advice and counselling agencies, in education, local authorities or health services, have to deal with a wide range of issues relating to children.
The aim of Working with Young People is to deal with some of the legal problems that may arise in providing services for young people or working with young people. The book reflects the questions we are asked and also issues that arise from training sessions with youth workers, social workers, teachers and counsellors. Queries have become more complex over the last two years, reflecting the growing quantity and detail of new legislation and new Codes of Practice and Guidance.
The new edition contains fully updated accurate legal information on a wide range of issues including: general responsibilities; appointing staff; parental responsibility; confidentiality; taking trips; running away; sexual relationships and education; drugs and alcohol; young people and the police.
As well as the original chapters Working with Young People has been expanded to include new sections on: young people estranged from their families; child protection; young people leaving care; advocacy; refugees and asylum seeking children; child witnesses; child employment and child performers.
