Can the child attend the Child Protection Case Conference?

Can the child attend the Child Protection Case Conference?

The child who is the subject of the meeting may attend if they wish, and if they are old enough to understand what is happening. The child protection co-ordinator must be sure that the young person’s attendance at the conference will not be harmful to that young person.

A young person may wish to be assisted by an advocate or bring a friend to help them express their views and wishes at the meeting. If they are mature enough to instruct a solicitor, they may have a solicitor attend with them.

If it is felt that the young person should not attend the conference, they can write to the conference to express how they feel about their situation. The social worker involved with the case should help them with this.
