What is the Forced Marriage Unit and how can it help?

The Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) is the Government’s central unit that deals with forced marriages. It provides confidential advice, information and assistance to those who are concerned that they are to be or have been victims of forced marriage and also gives advice to third parties to the forced marriage.

Help can be received within the UK and the FMU work in collaboration with overseas partners to ensure that appropriate action is taken where and when required.

Their objectives are to increase awareness of the options available to the potential victims, raise understanding amongst key professionals, such as the police, teachers and social workers, and to work together with communities to create effective local partnerships against forced marriages and the abuse.
