Difference between a forced marriage and an arranged marriage

A forced marriage takes places when a person is made to marry against their will and consent is only obtained through duress. Parties to an arranged marriage give their consent to the marriage.

Unlike an arranged marriage, a forced marriage is not justified on any religious or cultural basis. Arranged marriages have taken place successfully within communities for a very long time.
