Child Witness
Child Witnesses Questions and Answers

Should I tell my child about the court beforehand?

Is it best to tell my child about the court process beforehand?

Before the trial, the police or the child witness supporter can arrange for the child to look around an empty courtroom, although it may not be the one where the trial will be held. This will help the child to understand what will happen in court, where he or she will stand and who all the people are.

Ensure the child knows how he or she will be giving evidence on the day of the trial. If the child is using the TV link to give evidence, then he or she is entitled to have a practice session on the equipment.
