Child Witnesses Questions and Answers

Can my child have therapy whilst waiting to go to court?

Can my child have therapy whilst waiting to go to court?

It is for the parent and the child to decide whether he or she will require therapy. It is not a decision for the police or prosecutor but they must be told if the child is going to have therapy. If the child has therapy before the trial, the therapist cannot guarantee complete confidentiality and in some cases could be required to inform the court about sessions with the child. The therapist should discuss this with the parent and the child before therapy starts.
