The International Section works around the world to promote the implementation of children’s rights.
What do we do?
193 States have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The International Section of the CLC provides technical assistance to Governments to fulfil their obligations under this treaty to implement children’s rights.
The International Section works with Governments, the UN and NGOs to achieve systemic reform (law, policy and practice), in order to ensure the implementation of children’s rights and improve the situation of children without family care, children at risk of family breakdown, children with disabilities and children in conflict with the law.
To achieve sustained change, the International Section specialises in developing legislation. We also have expertise in carrying out research and analysis of policy and practice and evaluations of UN and State programes, training state and non-state representatives on international children’s rights law and good practice in working with children and young people, and developing grass roots projects to demonstrate good practice.
The International Section also hosts the Children and Armed Conflict Unit, a joint project with the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex, which works around the world to raise awareness of and improve the situation for children caught up in armed conflict and civil unrest, and for those emerging from conflict.
