- Project: Law Reform
- Developing a comprehensive analysis of child related legislation within Turkmenistan, implementing the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and establishing a child rights coordination and monitoring body
- Funding Source: UNICEF
At UNICEF’s request, from 2006-2007 the CLC carried out a comprehensive review of child related legislation in Turkmenistan in light of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, other international obligations and the Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child. This analysis was completed in 2006. A key recommendation of this analysis was the need to establish a coordination mechanism to lead a multi-agency approach to the legal and structural reform needed to bring law, policy and practice into line with international standards.
During 2007, the CLC worked with UNICEF and the Government of Turkmenistan to provide advice and assistance in the establishment of a National Coordination Body for children’s rights and children’s issues and in the development of a National Plan of Action.
