Project: Juvenile Justice System Reform Technical Assistance - Providing technical assistance in reforming the Georgian Juvenile Justice system in line with international standards
- Funding Source: UNICEF
The CLC is currently working with UNICEF Georgia and the Government of Georgia in order to implement a package of reforms for the juvenile justice system. A key component of this process is the establishment of an alternative sentencing scheme for young offenders. Three pilot projects will be established and implemented over the next three years in order to develop a model for Georgia which will be replicated throughout the country. The CLC is also developing a training manual for judges on international law and standards of good practice in dealing with young offenders.
In addition, the CLC is providing technical assistance on the reform of criminal legislation in order to ensure the protection of the rights of under-18s in conflict with the law.
Time Frame for this Project: 2007-2008
